Expert Chimney Inspection Contractors Near Blue Point

The chimney is one of the most under appreciated features of a residence. The fact that chimneys may do their job perfectly, even when discounted, contributes to this theory that ‘it’s probably fine’. A chimney deteriorated by constant exposure to the weather could be a potential safety hazard. Weather-damaged lining systems, flue obstructions and displaced masonry materials all present a complication to houses.

The dilemma is that a lot of masonry chimneys were not designed to handle the venting requirements of modern high-efficiency heating appliances burning natural gas & oil. Masonry products deteriorate quickly when exposed to the extreme freeze/thaw processes of Blue Point, in which moisture that has penetrated the products periodically freezes & expands causing undue stress. A stone chimney acts & appears like a brick chimney & it can also be protected from the effects of water penetration. Chimney caps have long been recognized as an important chimney safety & complication-prevention part. Common brick is like a sponge, absorbing water & wicking moisture to the chimney interior. Our pros only send fully-trained chimney cleaning fully-trained techs to your structure that will live up to the guidelines of the CSIA (Chimney Safety Institute of America) & the NCSG (National Chimney Sweeps Guild), the two regulatory organizations for the chimney industry in the United States. For a metal, brick or fabricated chimney repair consultation call or text Expressway at 631.388.7555.

One of the least expensive parts of the chimney venting system is the one that could prevent some of the most expensive complications. If you don’t have a chimney cap on your chimney, stop reading and call us for an estimate now! Every chimney pro knows that a safe chimney cap is a must. The job of the chimney cap is to stop rain from entering the flue & to stop pests from building nests in your chimney or using the chimney for a doorway into your property. Some caps might actually help facilitate the updraft function of the chimney as well by virtue of their special design. With precision engineering this damper is easy to open & close. This damper attaches to the top of the chimney’s flue tile liner, providing a tight, gasketed fit that seals in heat and seals out weather, insects, birds and animals. Even just falling leaves may build up without the correct chimney cap in place.

Rain is moisture and moisture is an enemy of a healthy fireplace and flue. Chimney liner tiles and mortar can crumble & crack leading to serious issues. The chimney cap cover deflects the rain & the side mesh areas prevent pests and leaves from entering the chimney. A rightly fitted chimney cap or guard can slow down wear-and-tear on your chimney and lining, potentially saving you from large repair expenses.

Our chimney repair & installation pros are very knowledgeable about a large variety of types of chimney caps, guards and dampers. Water starts more problems than any other element. It soaks into porous bricks and eats away at the mortar. A chimney cap that covers all flues can protect you from inordinate repairs. Chimneys might block the correct ventilation and even enter your structure, potentially spreading disease and wreaking havoc. Our strong mesh and lids can keep even the most determined animals out! Your fireplace might spew sparks out into the environment, onto the roof or nearby flammable products. Stray sparks can be stopped cold by the meshing cover that is a component of all of our chimney caps.

The method chosen or recommended for your chimney may depend on the type of deposits. The Thermocrete process coats the inside of the chimney from top to bottom with a highly durable ceramic sealant. Thermocrete has undergone rigorous UL Listing & it’s an approved liner for gas & oil. It conforms to any shape, size and length of the chimney and become a non-destructive chimney lining system which is corrosion-proof, flame and heat resistant, airtight liner with a rigidity of a steel. A stainless steel chimney liner locks in moisture and flue gases in your chimney & keeps them out of your structure.

This unique alloy is designed specifically to resist acids coming from gas appliances in the flue and extreme stresses of hot & cold cycles. The liner protects the house from heat transfer to combustibles. Liners protect the masonry from the corrosive byproducts of combustion. In the tests, it was determined that if the flue gases were allowed to penetrate to the brick & mortar, the result would be a reduction in the usable life of the chimney. Liners provide a properly-sized flue for optimum efficiency of appliances. The chimney is responsible for not only allowing the products of combustion a way out of the house, but the draft generated by the chimney also supplies the combustion air to the appliance. Our prominent role is to remove flue deposits and evaluate the total condition of the chimney system.

The required cleaning frequency could depend on amount of use, the type of installation, the type of fuel & the burning habits of the client. Chimneys should be cleaned when accumulations of soot & creosote approach or exceed 1/4 inch. Accumulations of glaze in excess of 1/8 inch can be removed. Our masons employ many cleaning plans to remove chimney deposits. Frequent (at least annual) chimney inspections are the only way to know when the chimney requires repairs.

Several of the most common chimney cleaning techniques that we provide follow:

Standard Sweep. This is the standard or normal cleaning method & involves the use of brushes to clean the flue. A powerful, well filtered vacuum is used to prevent soot and creosote from entering the home. This type of cleaning is effective for soot & ordinary creosote deposits but has little effect on glaze deposits.

Mechanical Sweeping. Mechanical cleaning involves the use of wire brushes, plastic cables or special chains rotated at high speed by an electric motor. Mechanical cleaning is often employed to remove hard creosote or glaze deposits. In some cases where it is impossible to sweep the flue by standard or mechanical sweeping it’s necessary to use chemicals that help loosen and dissolve heavy creosote and glaze deposits. These cases are almost never the case – but necessary in some situations, a clean sweep of your chimney will remove all of the soot, creosote & blockages from your flue liner, smoke chamber & shelf, firebox and damper. Heat, moisture, creosote & gases shall be either removed andreplaced, repaired or relined with a listed liner system or other approved material that can resist corrosion, softening or cracking from flue gases at temperature correct to the class of the chimney service.

Chemical cleaning: This requires two visits – sometimes even three – if necessary. Our chimney masons could usually be done in less couple of hours and will make sure your house does not get soiled or messy around the areas worked in. We pride ourselves on “no mess” top notch service by doing a great job with minimal interruption to an owner.
