Pro Chimney Cap Contractors Near Mastic

The chimney is one of the most taken-for-granted components of a house. The fact that chimneys could do their job perfectly, even when forgetten about, contributes to this thought of ‘it’s probably fine’. Chimneys perform several important functions and their simple appearance misrepresents their complex construction and performance requirements. Troublesome or deteriorated flue liners of masonry chimneys can become soft, cracked or otherwise deteriorated – such that it/they no longer have the ability to control and contain the scary by-products of combustion.

The problem is that a ton of masonry chimneys were not designed to handle the venting requirements of modern high-efficiency heating appliances burning natural gas and oil. A plethora of masonry chimney products (except for genuine stone) suffer accelerated deterioration as a result of prolonged contact with water. Water in the chimney also initiates rust in steel and cast iron, weakening or destroying the metal parts. Hundreds of masonry materials are porous and may absorb large amounts of water. Defective mortar joints or the use of faulty mortar or brick might greatly increase the tendency to absorb and guide water to the interior of the masonry chimney. We can advise you in your own subjective situation what is best for you. For a metal, brick or fabricated chimney repair estimate call or text Expressway’s chimney experts at 631.388.7555.

Mastic, LI’s Brick Chimney Masons Contractor

One of the least expensive parts of the chimney venting system is the one that will prevent some of the most inordinate damage. If you don’t have a chimney cap on your chimney, stop reading and call Expressway Roofing & Chimney for an estimate now! Every chimney mason knows that a safe chimney cap is a must. Chimney caps come in all different varieties, shapes, sizes and materials. Chimney caps also come with spark vents to prevent stray airborne particles that are still burning from exiting onto your roof. Chimney dampers could help prevent water penetrations, heat loss and keep you warm and saving you money. This damper attaches to the top of the chimney’s flue tile liner, providing a tight, gasketed fit that seals in heat and seals out weather, insects, birds and animals. It is sometimes hard to think how dextructive animals and birds could be over the summer crafting a wonderfully cozy nest right inside your chimney.

Metal fireboxes, liners and dampers all may suffer rust and deterioration. Chimney liner tiles and mortar can crumble and crack leading to serious trouble. The chimney cap cover deflects the rain and the side mesh areas prevent pests and leaves from entering the chimney. Of course, correct chimney cleaning and maintenance are still recommended annually.

We could be happy to come out and make a recommendation for you and provide a written estimate to install a new chimney cap, chimney damper or guard on your chimney. Water begins more weakening than any other element. It soaks into porous bricks and wears away at the mortar. It’s such a common dilemma , raccoons, squirrels, birds and bats try to make their structure in your chimney. Chimneys could block the right ventilation and even enter your structure, potentially spreading disease and wreaking havoc. Our strong mesh and lids could keep even the most determined animals out! Your fireplace can spew sparks out into the environment, onto the roof or nearby flammable products. Stray sparks could be stopped cold by the meshing cover that is a component of all of our chimney caps.

The method chosen or recommended for your chimney can depend on the type of deposits. The Thermocrete process coats the inside of the chimney from top to bottom with a highly durable ceramic sealant. Thermocrete has undergone rigorous UL Listing and it is an approved liner for gas and oil. Composite chimney lining system that gets inflated into the chimney flue and steam pressure is added to harden the resin, turning it into hard composite liner. A stainless steel chimney liner is air and water tight.

This unique alloy is designed specifically to resist acids coming from gas appliances in the flue and extreme stresses of hot and cold cycles. Liners in chimneys serve 3 main functions. Liners protect the masonry from the corrosive byproducts of combustion. The flue gases are acidic in nature and literally eat away at the mortar joints from inside the chimney. Liners provide a rightly-sized flue for optimum efficiency of appliances. The chimney is responsible for not only allowing the products of combustion a passage out of the house, but the draft generated by the chimney also supplies the combustion air to the appliance. Our principal function is to remove flue deposits and evaluate the total condition of the chimney system.

Our objective is to provide recommendations that could improve the safety and efficiency of your appliance and venting system. Chimneys should be cleaned when accumulations of soot and creosote approach or exceed 1/4 inch. Accumulations of glaze more than 1/8 inch could be removed. We employ various cleaning techniques to remove chimney deposits. Frequent (at least annual) chimney consultations are the only way to know when the chimney needs to be addressed.

Several of the most common chimney cleaning methods that we provide follow:

Standard Sweep. This is the standard or normal cleaning method and involves the use of brushes to clean the flue. A powerful, well filtered vacuum is used to prevent soot and creosote from entering the house. This type of cleaning is effective for soot and ordinary creosote deposits but has little effect on glaze deposits.

Mechanical Sweeping. Mechanical cleaning involves the use of wire brushes, plastic cables or special chains rotated at high speed by an electric motor. Mechanical cleaning is often employed to remove hard creosote or glaze deposits. In some cases where it is impossible to sweep the flue by standard or mechanical sweeping it’s necessary to use chemicals that help loosen and dissolve heavy creosote and glaze deposits. These cases are rarely the case – but necessary in some situations, a clean sweep of your chimney should remove all of the soot, creosote and blockages from your flue liner, smoke chamber and shelf, firebox and damper. Heat, moisture, creosote and gases shall be either removed and replaced, repaired or relined with a listed liner system or other approved product that could resist corrosion, softening or cracking from flue gases at temperature proper to the class of the chimney job.

Chemical cleaning: This needs two trips – sometimes even 3 – if necessary. Our chimney pros can usually be done in less couple of hours and can make sure your property does not get soiled or messy around the areas worked in. Our experts pride ourselves on “no mess” top notch service by doing a great job with minimal interruption to the owner.
