Expert Chimney Cap Contractors Near Plandome

The chimney is one of the most taken-for-granted components of a residence. The chimney tends to not receive the redress or the concern usually accorded other leaking household systems. Chimneys are far from the passive black holes that most customers assume them to be. Weather-damaged lining systems, flue obstructions and loose masonry products all present a problem to buildings.

Each year there are thousands of cases of carbon monoxide poisonings due to imperfectly lined chimneys. Masonry products deteriorate quickly when exposed to the extreme freeze/thaw processes of Plandome, in which moisture that has penetrated the products periodically freezes and expands causing undue stress. While most stone is not affected by water penetration, large amounts of mortar are required to bond the stone exactly. Chimney caps have long been recognized as an important chimney safety and complication-prevention part. Common brick is like a sponge, absorbing water and wicking moisture to the chimney interior. Caps and dampers keep out the weather, all animals and most debris – all while keeping sparks from leaving the chimney which may ignite nearby combustibles like your roof shingles, siding or nearby trees. One of the least expensive parts of the chimney venting system is the one that could prevent some of the most expensive harm. If you don’t have a chimney cap on your chimney, stop reading and call us for an estimate now! Every chimney technician knows that a safe chimney cap is a must. Most chimney caps are made from copper or stainless steel. Chimney caps also come with spark guards to prevent stray airborne particles that are still burning from exiting onto your roof. Chimney dampers will help prevent water penetrations, heat loss and keep you warm and saving you money. This damper attaches to the top of the chimney’s flue tile liner, providing a tight, gasketed fit that seals in heat and seals out weather, insects, birds and animals. These blockages will cause fire hazards and smoke back drafting into the property.

Rain is moisture and moisture is an enemy of a healthy fireplace and flue. Chimney liner tiles and mortar may crumble and crack leading to pivotal problems. The chimney cap cover deflects the rain and the side mesh areas prevent pests and leaves from entering the chimney. Of course, correct chimney cleaning and maintenance are still recommended annually.

Our chimney repair and installation experts are very knowledgeable about all types of chimney caps, guards and dampers. Water initiates more damage than any other element. It soaks into porous bricks and weathers at the mortar. It’s such a common dilemma , raccoons, squirrels, birds and bats try to make their residence in your chimney. Chimneys may block proper ventilation and even enter your structure, potentially spreading disease and wreaking havoc. Our strong mesh and lids could keep even the most determined animals out! Your fireplace will spew sparks out into the environment, onto the roof or nearby flammable products. Stray sparks could be stopped cold by the meshing cover that is a part of all of our chimney caps.

The method chosen or recommended for your chimney could depend on the type of deposits. The Thermocrete process coats the inside of the chimney from top to bottom with a highly durable ceramic sealant. Thermocrete has undergone rigorous UL Listing and it is an approved liner for gas and oil. Composite chimney lining system that gets inflated into the chimney flue and steam pressure is added to harden the resin, turning it into hard composite liner. A stainless steel chimney liner locks in moisture and flue gases in your chimney and keeps them out of your structure.

Stainless steel liners have been UL Tested under the most extreme conditions including multiple simulated chimney fires exceeding 2100F so you’ll sleep soundly at night knowing that your home is safer for yourself and your family. The liner protects the house from heat transfer to combustibles. Liners protect the masonry from the corrosive byproducts of combustion. In the tests, it was determined that if the flue gases were allowed to penetrate to the brick and mortar, the result would be a reduction in the usable life of the chimney. As the mortar joints degrade, heat transfers more rapidly to the nearby combustibles and dangerous gases such as carbon monoxide might leak into the living areas of the home. Modern wood stoves and gas or oil furnaces require a correctly-sized flue to perform properly. An haphazardly-sized liner can lead to more creosote buildup in wood burning stoves and the production of carbon monoxide with conventional fuels.

The required cleaning frequency may depend on amount of use, the type of installation, the type of fuel and the burning habits of the client. Chimneys should be cleaned when accumulations of soot and creosote approach or exceed 1/4 inch. Accumulations of glaze in excess of 1/8 inch may be removed. Our technicians employ several cleaning systems to remove chimney deposits. Frequent (at least annual) chimney estimates are the only way to know when the chimney needs replacing.

Several of the normal chimney cleaning methods that we provide follow:

Standard Sweep. This is the standard or normal cleaning method and involves the use of brushes to clean the flue. A powerful, well filtered vacuum is used to prevent soot and creosote from entering the house. This type of cleaning is effective for soot and ordinary creosote deposits but has little effect on glaze deposits.

Mechanical Sweeping. Mechanical cleaning involves the use of wire brushes, plastic cables or special chains rotated at high speed by an electric motor. Mechanical cleaning is often employed to remove hard creosote or glaze deposits. In some cases where it’s impossible to sweep the flue by standard or mechanical sweeping it’s necessary to use chemicals that help loosen and dissolve heavy creosote and glaze deposits. These cases are rarely the case – but necessary in some situations, a clean sweep of your chimney should remove all of the soot, creosote and blockages from your flue liner, smoke chamber and shelf, firebox and damper. Heat, moisture, creosote and gases may be either removed and replaced, repaired or relined with a listed liner system or other approved product that could resist corrosion, softening or cracking from flue gases at temperature necessary to the class of the chimney project.

Chemical cleaning: This needs two trips – sometimes even 3 – if necessary. Our chimney sweeps may usually be done in less couple of hours and can make sure your property does not get soiled or messy around the areas worked in. Our experts pride ourselves on “no mess” top notch project by doing a great job with minimal interruption to a homeowner.
