Chimney Caps & Damper Contractors For All LI

Great Chimney Care Contractors Near Huntington Station

The chimney is one of the most useful things of a structure. A Home’s chimney tends to not receive the focus or the concern usually provided other worrisome household systems. Chimneys are far from the quiet, passive black holes that are ‘just there’ that most property managers assume them to be. Regular chimney maintenance is crucial to prevent damage, deterioration & future hazardous, high-cost chimney fixes.

Each year there are thousands of cases of carbon monoxide poisonings due to erroneously lined chimneys.

Quite a bit of masonry chimney elements (except for natural stone) suffer accelerated deterioration as a result of prolonged contact with water.

Water in the chimney also causes rust in steel and cast iron, weakening or destroying the metal parts.

Chimney caps have long been recognized as an important chimney safety & problem-prevention solution.

Common brick is like a sponge, absorbing water and wicking moisture to the chimney interior.

Our masons can advise the owner in your own unique situation what is best for you.

One of the least expensive parts of the chimney venting system is the one that may prevent some of the most expensive leaks. If you don’t have a chimney cap on your chimney, stop reading & call our chimney pros for an estimate now! Every chimney pro knows that a safe chimney cap is a must.

The job of the chimney cap is to stop rain from entering the flue & to stop pests from building nests in your chimney or using the chimney for a doorway into your building.

Some caps will actually help facilitate the updraft function of the chimney as well by virtue of their special design.

With precision engineering this damper is easy to open & close, sealing tight when not in use.

It is the perfect upgrade for fireplace chimneys in older houses that infrequently have a damper.

It’s hard to believe how persistent animals and birds may be over the summer crafting a wonderfully cozy nest right inside your chimney.

Rain is moisture and moisture is an enemy of a healthy fireplace & flue. Chimney liner tiles & mortar could crumble & crack, leading to serious problems. The chimney cap cover deflects rain & the side mesh prevents pests & leaves from entering. Still, proper chimney cleaning and maintenance are always recommended.

We can come out and recommend the best option for you & provide a written estimate to install a new chimney cap, damper, or guard.

Water starts more damage than any other element. It soaks into porous bricks and erodes the mortar. It’s a common problem: raccoons, squirrels, birds & bats try to make their house in your chimney.

Chimneys may block proper ventilation & even allow pests to enter your house, potentially spreading disease & causing havoc. Our strong mesh & lids will keep even the most determined animals out!

Your fireplace can send sparks onto the roof or nearby flammable products. Stray sparks may be stopped by the mesh cover that is a component of all our chimney caps.

LI Chimney Contractors for Chimney Lining Replacements

The method recommended for your chimney will depend on the type of deposits. A flue lining in a masonry chimney is defined as “a clay, ceramic, or metal liner.” Thermocrete has UL Listing & is approved for gas and oil.

A composite chimney lining system is inflated into the flue, then hardened with steam pressure, forming a tough liner. A stainless steel chimney liner is air- and water-tight.

Stainless steel liners are UL tested under extreme conditions, including simulated chimney fires over 2100°F, so you’ll sleep soundly knowing your home is safer.

Chimney liners serve three main functions. NBS tests showed that unlined chimneys let heat move so quickly that adjacent woodwork caught fire within 3½ hours.

Flue gases are acidic and eat away at mortar joints from the inside. Liners also provide a properly-sized flue for efficient appliance performance.

The chimney not only vents combustion products but also supplies draft for combustion air. An incorrectly-sized liner may cause creosote buildup in wood stoves and increase carbon monoxide risks.

The required cleaning frequency can depend on use, type of installation, fuel, and burning habits of the client.

Chimneys should be cleaned when soot & creosote accumulations approach or exceed 1/4 inch. Glaze build-up over 1/8 inch should be removed. Our experts employ several cleaning techniques to remove chimney deposits. Frequent (at least annual) chimney checks are the only way to know when the chimney is in need of repairs.

Local Huntington Station Chimney Repair, Caps & Top Dampers

Several of the usual chimney cleaning methods we provide include:

Standard Sweep. This is the normal cleaning method & uses brushes to clean the flue. A powerful, well-filtered vacuum prevents soot & creosote from entering the property. This cleaning is effective for soot & light creosote deposits but has little effect on glaze build-up.

Mechanical Sweeping. Mechanical cleaning uses wire brushes, plastic cables, or special chains rotated at high speed by an electric motor. It is often employed to remove hard creosote or glaze deposits. In rare cases where it is impossible to sweep the flue by standard or mechanical methods, chemicals may be used to loosen & dissolve heavy deposits.

A thorough chimney sweep will remove soot, creosote and blockages from the flue liner, smoke chamber & shelf, firebox and damper. Heat, moisture, creosote & gases will be removed, repaired, or relined with a UL-listed liner system or other approved material that might resist corrosion, softening, or cracking from flue gases at temperatures correct for the class of the chimney project.

Chemical Cleaning: This requires two visits — sometimes three if necessary. Our chimney sweeps will usually complete the job in a couple of hours & ensure your house stays clean and undisturbed. Our technicians pride ourselves on “no mess,” top-notch service with minimal interruption to you.
