The chimney is one of the most undervalued structures of a structure. A Home’s chimney tends to not receive the consideration or the concern usually accorded other hazardous household systems. Chimneys perform several essential functions & their simple appearance misrepresents their complex construction and performance requirements. Troublesome or deteriorated flue liners of masonry chimneys often become soft, cracked or otherwise unsafe – such that it/they no longer have the ability to control & contain the dangerous by-products of combustion.
Each year there are thousands of cases of carbon monoxide poisonings due to shodily lined chimneys.
Lots of masonry chimney components (except for genuine stone) suffer accelerated deterioration as a result of prolonged contact with water.
Water in the chimney also triggers rust in steel & cast iron, weakening or destroying the metal parts.
Chimney caps, also called rain covers, are probably the most inexpensive preventive measure that a householder should employ to prevent water penetration & trouble to the chimney.
Defective mortar joints or the use of unsound mortar or brick likely greatly increase the tendency to absorb & transport water to the interior of the masonry chimney.
Caps and dampers keep out the weather, all animals & most debris – all while keeping sparks from leaving the chimney which may ignite nearby combustibles like your roofing shingles, siding or nearby trees.

One of the least expensive parts of the chimney venting system is the one that will prevent some of the most upscale damage. If you don’t have a chimney cap on your chimney, stop reading & call us for an estimate now! Every chimney mason knows that a safe chimney cap is a must.
The job of the chimney cap is to stop rain from entering the flue & to stop pests from building nests in your chimney or using the chimney for a doorway into your structure.
Chimney caps also come with spark vents to prevent stray airborne particles that are still burning from exiting onto your roof.
With precision engineering this damper is easy to open & close, sealing tight when not in use.
When closed, the damper serves as a chimney cap & with a slight pull of the chain it releases the spring-loaded top into the open position when you’re ready to enjoy a nice fire.
Even just falling leaves may build up without the latest chimney cap in place.
Rain is moisture and moisture is an enemy of a healthy fireplace and flue. Chimney liner tiles & mortar can crumble & crack, leading to serious problems. The chimney cap cover deflects rain and the side mesh prevents pests and leaves from entering. Still, proper chimney cleaning and maintenance are always recommended.
Our chimney repair & installation technicians are knowledgeable about a wide variety of chimney caps, guards and dampers.
Water causes more issues than any other element. It soaks into porous bricks & weathers the mortar. A chimney cap that covers all flues will protect you from expensive repairs.
Chimneys can block correct ventilation & even allow pests to enter your house, potentially spreading disease & causing havoc. Our strong mesh and lids will keep even the most determined animals out!
Your fireplace may send sparks onto the roof or nearby flammable materials. Stray sparks can be stopped by the mesh cover that is a part of all our chimney caps.
The method recommended for your chimney may depend on the type of deposits. The Thermocrete process coats the inside of the chimney with a durable ceramic sealant. Thermocrete has UL Listing & is approved for gas & oil.
A composite chimney lining system is inflated into the flue, then hardened with steam pressure, forming a tough liner. A stainless steel chimney liner is air- & water-tight.
Stainless steel liners are UL tested under extreme conditions, including simulated chimney fires over 2100°F, so you’ll sleep soundly knowing your house is safer.
Chimney liners serve three main functions. NBS tests showed that unlined chimneys let heat move so quickly that adjacent woodwork caught fire within 3½ hours.
Flue gases are acidic and eat away at mortar joints from the inside. Liners also provide a correctly-sized flue for efficient appliance performance.
The chimney not only vents combustion products but also supplies draft for combustion air. Our primary role is to remove flue deposits and evaluate the overall chimney system.
The required cleaning frequency will depend on use, type of installation, fuel, & burning habits of the client.
Chimneys should be cleaned when soot and creosote accumulations approach or exceed 1/4 inch. Glaze build-up more than 1/8 inch can be removed. We employ multiple cleaning methods to remove chimney deposits. Frequent (at least annual) chimney checks are the only way to know when the chimney requires repairs.
Several of the usual chimney cleaning methods we provide include:
Standard Sweep. This is the normal cleaning method & uses brushes to clean the flue. A powerful, well-filtered vacuum prevents soot and creosote from entering the property. This cleaning is effective for soot & light creosote deposits but has little effect on glaze build-up.
Mechanical Sweeping. Mechanical cleaning uses wire brushes, plastic cables, or special chains rotated at high speed by an electric motor. It is often employed to remove hard creosote or glaze deposits. In rare cases where it’s impossible to clean the flue by standard or mechanical methods, chemicals may be used to loosen and dissolve heavy deposits.
A thorough chimney sweep will remove soot, creosote & blockages from the flue liner, smoke chamber & shelf, firebox & damper. Heat, moisture, creosote and gases can be removed, repaired, or relined with a UL-listed liner system or other approved product that might resist corrosion, softening, or cracking from flue gases at temperatures proper for the class of the chimney service.
Chemical Cleaning: This calls for two trips — sometimes 3 if necessary. Our chimney technicians can usually complete the job in a couple of hours and ensure your residence stays clean and undisturbed. Our technicians pride ourselves on “no mess,” top-notch service with minimal interruption to a homeowner.
