The chimney is one of the most undervalued parts of a dwelling. Every chimney tends to not receive the redress or the concern usually given other hazardous household systems. Chimneys perform several pertinent functions and their simple appearance misrepresents their complex construction and performance requirements. Damaged or deteriorated flue liners of masonry chimneys often become soft, cracked or otherwise damaged – such that it/they no longer have the ability to control & contain the dangerous by-products of combustion.
Each year there are thousands of cases of carbon monoxide poisonings due to defectively lined chimneys.
Expressway repairs issues to all parts of your fireplace or chimney. Whether a resident requires a chimney repointing, chimney repairs to missing or loose bricks, repair of a leaking chimney crown, broken flue liner or other chimney defect.
Water in the chimney also leads to rust in steel & cast iron, weakening or destroying the metal parts.
Lots of masonry elements are porous & will absorb large amounts of water.
Common brick is like a sponge, absorbing water and wicking moisture to the chimney interior.
We may advise a client in your own personal situation what is best for you.

One of the least expensive parts of the chimney venting system is the one that can prevent some of the most budget-busting setbacks. If you don’t have a chimney cap on your chimney, stop reading and call Eastport’s local roofing experts for an estimate now! Every chimney technician knows that a safe chimney cap is a must.
Chimney caps come in all different varieties, shapes, sizes and materials.
Chimney caps also come with spark wire to prevent stray airborne particles that are still burning from exiting onto your roof.
With precision engineering this damper is easy to open and close, sealing tight when not in use.
This damper attaches to the top of the chimney’s flue tile liner, providing a tight, gasketed fit that seals in heat and seals out weather, insects, birds & animals.
These blockages might cause fire hazards and smoke back drafting into the building.
Rain is moisture and moisture is an enemy of a healthy fireplace & flue. Chimney liner tiles and mortar could crumble and crack, leading to serious issues. The chimney cap cover deflects rain and the side mesh prevents pests & leaves from entering. Still, proper chimney cleaning and maintenance are always recommended.
Our experts can come out and recommend the best option for you and provide a written estimate to install a new chimney cap, damper, or guard.
Water causes more damage than any other element. It soaks into porous bricks & wears away the mortar. A chimney cap that covers all flues can protect you from costly repairs.
Chimneys may block proper ventilation and even allow pests to enter your home, potentially spreading disease and causing havoc. Our strong mesh and lids can keep even the most determined animals out!
Your fireplace may send sparks onto the roof or nearby flammable products. Stray sparks may be stopped by the mesh cover that is a part of all our chimney caps.
The method recommended for your chimney will depend on the type of deposits. A flue lining in a masonry chimney is defined as “a clay, ceramic, or metal liner.” A lining cleaning is cost-effective & ideal for fireplaces & chimneys serving gas, oil, wood, or coal appliances.
A composite chimney lining system is inflated into the flue, then hardened with steam pressure, forming a tough liner. A stainless steel chimney liner is air- and water-tight.
Stainless steel liners are UL tested under extreme conditions, including simulated chimney fires over 2100°F, so you’ll sleep soundly knowing your house is safer.
Chimney liners serve three main functions. NBS tests showed that unlined chimneys let heat move so quickly that adjacent woodwork caught fire within 3½ hours.
If flue gases penetrate brick and mortar, the chimney’s lifespan is drastically reduced. Liners also provide a correctly-sized flue for efficient appliance performance.
The chimney not only vents combustion products but also supplies draft for combustion air. An improperly-sized liner can cause creosote buildup in wood stoves and increase carbon monoxide risks.
The required cleaning frequency will depend on use, type of installation, fuel, and burning habits of the customer.
Chimneys should be cleaned when soot and creosote accumulations approach or exceed 1/4 inch. Glaze build-up in excess of 1/8 inch should be removed. Our technicians employ a variety of cleaning methods to remove chimney deposits. Frequent (at least annual) chimney estimates are the only way to know when the chimney needs attention.
Several of the common chimney cleaning techniques we provide include:
Standard Sweep. This is the normal cleaning method and uses brushes to clean the flue. A powerful, well-filtered vacuum prevents soot & creosote from entering the residence. This cleaning is effective for soot and light creosote deposits but has little effect on glaze build-up.
Mechanical Sweeping. Mechanical cleaning uses wire brushes, plastic cables, or special chains rotated at high speed by an electric motor. It is often employed to remove hard creosote or glaze deposits. In rare cases where it is impossible to clean the flue by standard or mechanical methods, chemicals may be used to loosen and dissolve heavy deposits.
A thorough chimney sweep can remove soot, creosote and blockages from the flue liner, smoke chamber and shelf, firebox and damper. Heat, moisture, creosote and gases may be removed, repaired, or relined with a UL-listed liner system or other approved material that may resist corrosion, softening, or cracking from flue gases at temperatures necessary for the class of the chimney job.
Chemical Cleaning: This requires two trips — sometimes three if necessary. Our chimney masons may usually complete the job in a couple of hours and ensure your house stays clean and undisturbed. Our technicians pride ourselves on “no mess,” top-notch service with minimal interruption to the owner.
