The chimney is one of the most under appreciated structures of a structure. The fact that chimneys may do their job fittingly, even when passed over, contributes to this thought that ‘it’s probably fine’. A chimney deteriorated by constant exposure to the weather can be a potential safety hazard. Weather-damaged lining systems, flue obstructions & loose masonry stones all present a problem to houses.
Improperly lined chimneys will cause a number of hefty structural & cosmetic dilemmas for the consumer and also create potentially imperitive safety hazards.
Lots of masonry chimney components (except for authentic stone) suffer accelerated deterioration as a result of prolonged contact with water.
A stone chimney acts and is like a brick chimney & it might also be protected from the effects of water penetration.
Chimney caps, also called rain covers, are probably the most inexpensive preventive measure that a client will employ to prevent water penetration & complications to the chimney.
Installing chimney caps and dampers could protect your chimney & maintain a safe chimney damper.
Caps and dampers keep out the weather, all animals & most debris – all while keeping sparks from leaving the chimney which may ignite nearby combustibles like your roofing shingles, siding or nearby trees.

One of the least expensive parts of the chimney venting system is the one that will prevent some of the most upscale trouble. If you don’t have a chimney cap on your chimney, stop reading right now and call Hauppauge’s local roofing experts for an estimate now! Every chimney specialist knows that a safe chimney cap is a must.
Most chimney caps are made from copper or stainless steel
Chimney caps also come with spark guards to prevent stray airborne particles that are still burning from exiting onto your roof.
Chimney dampers often help prevent water penetrations, heat loss and keep you warm and saving you money.
This damper attaches to the top of the chimney’s flue tile liner, providing a tight, gasketed fit that seals in heat and seals out weather, insects, birds and animals.
It is hard to think how destructive animals and birds can be over the summer crafting a wonderfully cozy nest right inside your chimney.
Metal fireboxes, liners & dampers all could suffer rust & deterioration. Chimney liner tiles & mortar may crumble and crack, leading to critical damage. The chimney cap cover deflects rain & the side mesh prevents pests & leaves from entering. Still, annual chimney cleaning and maintenance are always recommended.
Our chimney repair and installation technicians are knowledgeable about many types of chimney caps, guards & dampers.
Water starts more issues than any other element. It soaks into porous bricks & erodes the mortar. It’s a common issue: raccoons, squirrels, birds and bats try to make their home in your chimney.
Chimneys may block proper ventilation and even allow pests to enter your home, potentially spreading disease and causing havoc. Our strong mesh and lids will keep even the most determined animals out!
Your fireplace may send sparks onto the roof or nearby flammable materials. Stray sparks may be stopped by the mesh cover that is a part of all our chimney caps.
The method recommended for your chimney will depend on the type of deposits. The Thermocrete process coats the inside of the chimney with a durable ceramic sealant. Thermocrete has UL Listing & is approved for gas & oil.
A composite chimney lining system is inflated into the flue, then hardened with steam pressure, forming a tough liner. A stainless steel liner locks in moisture and gases, keeping them out of your house.
This alloy resists acids from gas appliances & extreme temperature cycles.
Chimney liners serve three main functions. Liners also protect masonry from the corrosive byproducts of combustion.
If flue gases penetrate brick & mortar, the chimney’s lifespan is drastically reduced. As mortar joints wear away, heat transfers more quickly to combustibles & gases like carbon monoxide may leak into the home.
Modern stoves and furnaces need a properly-sized flue to operate efficiently. An improperly-sized liner can cause creosote buildup in wood stoves & increase carbon monoxide risks.
Our mission is to provide recommendations that could improve the safety and efficiency of your appliance and venting system.
Chimneys should be cleaned when soot and creosote accumulations approach or exceed 1/4 inch. Glaze build-up in excess of 1/8 inch should be removed. Our technicians employ several cleaning methods to remove chimney deposits. Frequent (at least annual) chimney checks are the only way to know when the chimney is in need of repairs.
Several of the common chimney cleaning practices we provide include:
Standard Sweep. This is the standard cleaning method and uses brushes to clean the flue. A powerful, well-filtered vacuum prevents soot and creosote from entering the property. This cleaning is effective for soot & light creosote deposits but has little effect on glaze build-up.
Mechanical Sweeping. Mechanical cleaning uses wire brushes, plastic cables, or special chains rotated at high speed by an electric motor. It is often employed to remove hard creosote or glaze deposits. In rare cases where it is impossible to sweep the flue by standard or mechanical methods, chemicals may be used to loosen and dissolve heavy deposits.
A thorough chimney sweep can remove soot, creosote and blockages from the flue liner, smoke chamber & shelf, firebox & damper. Heat, moisture, creosote and gases will be removed, repaired, or relined with a UL-listed liner system or other approved product that may resist corrosion, softening, or cracking from flue gases at temperatures proper for the class of the chimney job.
Chemical Cleaning: This needs two visits — sometimes 3 if necessary. Our chimney sweeps can usually complete the job in a couple of hours and ensure your home stays clean and undisturbed. We pride ourselves on “no mess,” top-notch project with minimal interruption to you.
