The chimney is one of the most taken-for-granted things of a building. The fact that chimneys will do their job perfectly, even when neglected, contributes to this misnomer that ‘it’s probably fine’. A chimney deteriorated by constant exposure to the weather ultimately be a potential safety hazard. Regular chimney maintenance is foundational to prevent harm, deterioration and future troublesome, high-cost chimney solutions.
The concern is that a ton of masonry chimneys were not designed to handle the venting requirements of modern high-efficiency heating appliances burning natural gas & oil.
Quite a bit of masonry chimney products (except for genuine stone) suffer accelerated deterioration as a result of prolonged contact with water.
A stone chimney acts and seems to be like a brick chimney and it can also be protected from the effects of water penetration.
Chimney caps have long been recognized as an important chimney safety & complication-prevention component.
Defective mortar joints or the use of substandard mortar or brick will greatly increase the tendency to absorb & transfer water to the interior of the masonry chimney.
Our experts often advise the owner in your own special situation what is best for you.

One of the least expensive parts of the chimney venting system is the one that may prevent some of the most expensive problems. If you don’t have a chimney cap on your chimney, stop reading & call our chimney pros for an estimate now! Every chimney technician knows that a safe chimney cap is a must.
Many chimney caps today are built from aluminum, galvanized steel or decorative metals.
Some caps will actually help facilitate the updraft function of the chimney as well by virtue of their special design.
With precision engineering this damper is easy to open and close, sealing tight when not in use.
When closed, the damper serves as a chimney cap and with a slight pull of the chain it releases the spring-loaded top into the open position when you’re ready to enjoy a nice fire.
It’s hard to see how destructive animals & birds might be over the summer crafting a wonderfully cozy nest right inside your chimney.
Metal fireboxes, liners and dampers all could suffer rust & deterioration. Chimney liner tiles & mortar may crumble and crack, leading to critical leaks. The chimney cap cover deflects rain & the side mesh prevents pests & leaves from entering. A properly fitted chimney cap or guard can slow wear-and-tear on your chimney and lining, saving you from costly expenses.
Our experts can come out & recommend the best option for you and provide a written estimate to install a new chimney cap, damper, or guard.
Water starts more problems than any other element. It soaks into porous bricks and wears away the mortar. It’s a common issue: raccoons, squirrels, birds & bats try to make their home in your chimney.
Chimneys can block proper ventilation & even allow pests to enter your home, potentially spreading disease & causing havoc. Our strong mesh and lids can keep even the most determined animals out!
Your fireplace can send sparks onto the roof or nearby flammable products. Stray sparks may be stopped by the mesh cover that is a component of all our chimney caps.
The method recommended for your chimney will depend on the type of deposits. The Thermocrete process coats the inside of the chimney with a durable ceramic sealant. A lining cleaning is cost-effective and ideal for fireplaces & chimneys serving gas, oil, wood, or coal appliances.
A composite chimney lining system is inflated into the flue, then hardened with steam pressure, forming a tough liner. A stainless steel chimney liner is air- & water-tight.
Stainless steel liners are UL tested under extreme conditions, including simulated chimney fires over 2100°F, so you’ll sleep soundly knowing your house is safer.
Chimney liners serve three main functions. Liners also protect masonry from the corrosive byproducts of combustion.
If flue gases penetrate brick and mortar, the chimney’s lifespan is drastically reduced. Liners also provide a properly-sized flue for efficient appliance performance.
Modern stoves and furnaces need a properly-sized flue to operate efficiently. Our main role is to remove flue deposits & evaluate the overall chimney system.
The required cleaning frequency will depend on use, type of installation, fuel, and burning habits of the client.
Chimneys should be cleaned when soot and creosote accumulations approach or exceed 1/4 inch. Glaze build-up more than 1/8 inch should be removed. We employ various cleaning systems to remove chimney deposits. Frequent (at least annual) chimney inspections are the only way to know when the chimney requires attention.
Several of the typical chimney cleaning techniques we provide include:
Standard Sweep. This is the standard cleaning method & uses brushes to clean the flue. A powerful, well-filtered vacuum prevents soot & creosote from entering the property. This cleaning is effective for soot and light creosote deposits but has little effect on glaze build-up.
Mechanical Sweeping. Mechanical cleaning uses wire brushes, plastic cables, or special chains rotated at high speed by an electric motor. It is often employed to remove hard creosote or glaze deposits. In rare cases where it is impossible to sweep the flue by standard or mechanical methods, chemicals may be used to loosen and dissolve heavy deposits.
A thorough chimney sweep can remove soot, creosote and blockages from the flue liner, smoke chamber and shelf, firebox & damper. Heat, moisture, creosote and gases may be removed, repaired, or relined with a UL-listed liner system or other approved material that may resist corrosion, softening, or cracking from flue gases at temperatures necessary for the class of the chimney job.
Chemical Cleaning: This calls for two trips — sometimes three if necessary. Our chimney masons may usually complete the job in a couple of hours & ensure your residence stays clean and undisturbed. Our pros pride ourselves on “no mess,” top-notch service with minimal interruption to the owner.
